The first thing that amazed me was finding out that the <em>idea<\/em> for this conference occurred less than two months ago. The opening keynote was by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Roter\">George Roter<\/a>, co-founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Engineers_Without_Borders_%28Canada%29\">EWB<\/a>. EWB is quite active here, seeing as it was founded by UW graduates, but I learned a lot that I didn&#8217;t know, and I was very impressed with both George and EWB.
