{"id":910,"date":"2008-04-17T16:55:47","date_gmt":"2008-04-17T23:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/faganm.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/07\/910\/"},"modified":"2009-03-12T20:47:36","modified_gmt":"2009-03-13T03:47:36","slug":"some-public-transit-data-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faganm.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/17\/910\/","title":{"rendered":"some public transit data notes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>I started writing this post a few weeks ago and have mostly forgotten what I was going to write about. whups&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/headwayblog.com\/wiki\/index.php?title=Main_Page\">Headway Wiki<\/a> is a great wiki for public transit data, which accompanies the <a href=\"http:\/\/headwayblog.com\/\">Headway<\/a> blog. I added some links for Waterloo, Toronto, and Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>It is great seeing that some cities are opening up their data in a <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/transit\/spec\/transit_feed_specification.html\">somewhat standard format<\/a>, although I wish everyone would. Governments trying to keep their data private is almost universally pointless and counter-productive. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/transit\">Google Transit<\/a> seems to be the best generalized transit trip planner (on the other hand, there seem to be several new ones I haven&#8217;t explored), although sites targeted to specific cities often offer a lot more.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately I missed out on <a href=\"http:\/\/toronto.transitcamp.org\/METRONAUTS1\">the first Metronauts unconference<\/a>,  <a href=\"http:\/\/metronauts.ca\/\">Metronauts<\/a> being an expansion of TorontoTransitCamp.
